Dr. Wakeman is a board certified Family Practice physician and has been in practice since 1994. He received his medical degree from Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California.

Dr. Wakeman began operation of La Costa Urgent Care and Family Practice in January 2001. He believes there is a genuine need in our community for service oriented, immediate medical care by a board certified physician. He has created a place where patients can see their doctor on the day they need to, at the time they need to, with minimal wait.

What is a D.O.?

A D.O. (Doctor of Osteopathy) is a fully licensed medical doctor, licensed to perform surgery and prescribe medication. D.O.s receive additional training during medical school in the musculoskeletal system—your body’s interconnected system of nerves, muscles and bones. This additional training provides the physician with a better understanding of how illness or injury affects your whole body. Because of this training, many D.O.s focus their medical careers in Primary Care: Internal Medicine, Family Practice, Pediatrics and OB; but you will find D.O.s in all specialties of medicine, including surgery, E.R. and psychiatry.
